Melody was submerged within the deep blue, the waves lapping far over her head, her pools of blue scanned the sandy bottom of the ocean floor; her hand outstretched to reach a perfect sand dollar. She smiled to herself as she placed it in her knitted bag which clanged together like some sort of wind chime. Melody swam to the surface, taking a deep long breath that her lungs ached for. Not to say that her lungs didn’t always ache for air; because they did always ache; Melody just rarely had the heart to give into it so quickly.
Melody glanced at the horizon, seeing that it would be soon lunch; she began to swim back to shore. When she noted something in the distance, seeing a dark figure sitting on the shoreline, alone. Now Melody wasn’t sure whether she was imagining thing, or whether she was really in need of water that isn’t filled with salt, or whether someone had decided to come to the beach dressed in costume. She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and out of her face as she began to swim faster, to see what the thing was. When she was close enough, Melody called out, afraid that the thing would leave before she got to talk to it— that and she was becoming increasingly tired. “Hello there! I’m Melody— Who are you?” She called out with a small smile, finally reaching the shore.
Sally glanced up, noticing that she was now not as alone as she thought she was. Her first instinct was to run. To hide before she scared off the human, like she always did. However, she hesitated. For some reason, she felt that this human was different. They’re saying hello…Perhaps I haven’t scared them away? “I-I’m Sally. Sally Ske- er…Just Sally.” She gave a small smile. “Pleasure to meet you. Who are you?” Her gaze moved to her hands. “I’m sorry if my appearance is strange or frightens you. To put it simply, I’m a living ragdoll.”
Hiding behind a large rock, Sally considered her options. The beach ahead of her was empty of people, which meant she could relax and have no one freak out at a living doll randomly on the beach. On the other hand, empty beaches could be a trap. Anyone and anything could be lying in wait for her. She shook her head. Jack’s book said beach places were relaxing…Halloween knows I need to relax.
With a firm nod (more to reassure herself), Sally stepped out from the rock and made her way along the beach. The waves lapped at her boots as she walked along the sand. Finding a place to sit a little ways away from her rock hiding place, she sat on the sand and glanced out at the ocean before her. Relaxing…Things finally feel peaceful…

Sally blinked, shaking her head after a few moments. “N-No…I’d rather stay here…B-Besides, there is a chance he will come back…r-right?”
Yes, a slim chance, and one you still can’t fully believe in, Sally. But I guess that’s part of the reason you’re still alive. You want to believe…

This happens all the time. Seriously. It’s how deprived of romance I am; I take any little bit of it I can get.
